Sprayground – the rebellious and artistically designed backpack and influential streetwear brand, drops collaboration backpack with iconic Wu-Tang Clan member and hip hop phenomenon Raekwon the Chef.
It’s no secret that when it comes to backpacks and accessories, Sprayground is at the forefront of unique and dramatic design. For this latest collaboration, Sprayground worked very closely with Raekwon to create ‘The Purple Tape’ bag, to help kids out with their travel swag!
The bag design celebrates the 25th anniversary of Raekwon’s solo debut album ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx’, and emcompasses lyrics from the album, a transparent purple outer skin, as well as Sprayground’s well-known and original collectable art, ‘shark mouth’ feature.
Raewkon, said: “I have been a buyer of Sprayground for a long time, and admire David’s work. To get the opportunity to collaborate with a talented team of designers, and build a bag that encompasses me, is so dope. Looking forward to seeing it on the streets!”
In addition to the stand-out design, for Sprayground, functionality is always as important. The backpack has a padded laptop compartment that can accommodate a 17-inch laptop, as well as designated partitions for USB sticks, wires and cables, and other accessories securely stored in zipped compartments, making it the perfect backpack for comfort and the fashion-forward!
Founder and creative director, David Ben David said, “This collaboration has been iconic for me, I grew up listening to Wu Tang, so this is pretty surreal! I loved tapping into the last two decades of content from him, to bring this bag to life and really show Raekwon’s unique style. Super excited to share this one with the fans. ”
The backpack retailed at $XX, is available from today at www.sprayground.com.

About Raekwon
For 25 years, Raekwon The Chef has been one of the most sought out voices in Hip-Hop music. The Staten Island native born, Corey Woods, is a true originator of lyricism, street culture, and rugged NYC style. Rae’ made his musical debut on the 1993 classic album, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), along with most of his Wu-Tang comrades. There, the young MC dropped iconic verses on classic singles “C.R.E.A.M.,” “Protect Ya Neck,” and “Can It All Be So Simple, leading to his solo record deal with Loud Records. In 1995, Raekwon’s debut album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx was awarded the prestigious ‘5 Mic’ review from The Source. Becoming platinum-certified (the album went Gold in a mere four days), the album forever changed the Rap narrative, from the standpoints of narrative and creativity. Till this day, the album remains as one of the keystones of the Wu-Tang catalog. Then after securing a #1 debut and with Wu-Tang Forever in 1997, the MC would then cross the country making high profile appearances with Outkast and Tash. However, 14 years removed from his debut, and completely independent (after a stint at Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment, under Busta Rhymes), Raekwon contended with Rap’s greatest sequel. 2009’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. II was a stellar update to a sacred Rap listen, featuring involvement from Wu, Dre, Slick Rick, Busta, and the late J Dilla. In 2010, Raekwon was tapped by Kanye West for his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and has been in the studio with Jay Z. 2011’s Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang was a warmly-welcomed progression of Rae’s sound. 2015’s Fly International Luxurious Art celebrating his skills and place in the game, with an elite class of company to share the microphone with including: Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky, French Montana, Rick Ross, and many more. While Raekwon’s successful career was defined in the 1990s, his legacy has been cemented in the 2000s, and now he is back with another project under wraps, planning to be released in 2020. “It’s all about leaving an imprint in Hip-Hop, and being what people expect you to be,” reflects Rae’ today. “For me, I’m blessed. I had three different successes, from Wu-Tang Clan, to Raekwon & Ghostface Killah, to myself.” Recently, Raekwon partnered with Red Bull to curate a 4-song EP with the publishing entity, Red Bull Songs. As part of the Red Bull Music Studios Sessions collective, the Chef collaborated with some of their top songwriters & producers. Stay tuned for the release in 2020!
